In the first part of our WordPress beginners’ tutorial, I explained the steps to follow in order to register a domain name, choose a reliable web host, and install WordPress database on your domain. Next, I took you through the process of using Fantastico icon at the “Software and Services” section of your hosting package to install WordPress i.e. if you are using cPanel web hosting platform. You can see Fantastico in the image below. That is what you should click.

Today, I am going to walk you through the other steps required to complete the initial installation of WordPress on your domain name. Thereafter, I will start discussing the nitty-gritty of installing themes and customizing your WordPress with usable plug-ins in our subsequent WordPress beginners tutorials. Stay with me and enjoy!

You should be at the installation page if you followed the steps I have explained so far. Here is an image of where you should be right now.

Click on WordPress. Next, click on “New Installation”. You will see 2 options asking if you want to “install on domain” or “install in directory”. If you are installing on the root of your domain name like OnlineBusinessBuff.com, for example, do nothing. That is the installation default. But if you are installing on a sub directory like OnlineBusinessBuff.com/blog, you have to fill out the word “blog” on the “install in directory” field. You can decide to use any other word outside “blog”. You can choose to use “niche” or whatever. That means your full blog path will always read like this: OnlineBusinessBuff.com/niche.

The next step is to fill out the “Admin username”. Use a name you wish to access your WordPress administration area. After that, you should now enter a “password” that only you will easily remember when you want to access your dashboard. But the password should not have resemblance with the blog name in order to reduce hacking and spam furor.

Now, fill out the “nickname” you want to attach to your blog. You can choose “Design Geek”, for example, if you are a website designer installing a WordPress blog for your website design services. I hope you get the gist and you are following this WordPress beginners’ tutorial in easy steps?

The next information to fill out is your “Admin email”. By default WordPress will automatically put in an email with your “admin username” at your own “domain name”. For instance, if my admin username was “access” and my domain name is “infogiant.com”, WordPress email will be shown as “access[at]infogiant.com” but replace [at] with @.

What you can do is to change the email address to the one you frequently use or you decide to assign to this blog. Anytime you forget your password, this email address is where a password reset will be sent to. You don’t want to be stocked up when that happens!

It is time to fill out the “Site name” and “Description”. The site name is the title of your blog. So I expect you to include your main keyword phrase in it. The description is the tagline below your site name. Actually it supports the main object of your website. You should put in a keyword phrase there too.

As soon as you have completed the above tasks, click the “install” button. Pronto, your blog is now installed. Click the “Finish Installation” button to round off what you have done so far. That is it! You are now a pro at installing WordPress blog on your domain at the flip of your fingers!

In our next part of this series of WordPress beginners tutorial, I will take you to the administration dashboard of your blog with the username and password we filled out earlier.
